1. OpenAI launches Study Mode in ChatGPT
July 29, 2025

OpenAI launched Study Mode, a new ChatGPT feature to help students build critical thinking. Instead of just giving answers, it asks questions to check understanding and may not answer directly unless the student tries first.
Study Mode is available for Free, Plus, Pro, and Team users, and will soon come to school plans. It was made because many students use ChatGPT, but studies show overusing it can hurt thinking skills.
Students can still switch back to normal mode, and there are no tools yet for parents or teachers to control it. So, it mainly works for students who truly want to learn.

2. Google’s AI Mode gets new ‘Canvas’ feature, real-time help with Search Live, and more
July 29, 2025
Google has updated its AI Mode in Search with new features to help users study better and ask deeper questions.
One new feature is Canvas, which lets you build a study plan in a side panel. You can create a plan for a test, ask follow-up questions, and even upload files like class notes or a syllabus to make the guide more personal. This feature is coming soon to U.S. users in the AI Mode Labs experiment.
Another update is Search Live, which works with Google Lens. You can point your phone camera at something, like a math problem, and ask questions. Google will respond in real time with helpful info and links. This feature is also coming to mobile in the U.S. this week.
Google is also making it easier to use AI Mode on desktop. You’ll soon be able to ask questions about what's on your screen, click on parts of a webpage, or upload PDFs to get answers. Later this year, it will support even more file types, like Google Drive documents.

3. Microsoft Edge is now an AI browser with launch of ‘Copilot Mode’
July 28, 2025
Microsoft has introduced Copilot Mode in its Edge browser to help users browse the web with AI support. This new feature can answer questions, summarize content, and even help with tasks like booking appointments or creating shopping lists.
Users can interact with Copilot through a new tab, ask for recipe changes, skip long intros, or get help while visiting a website without copying and pasting. It also supports voice input and can, with permission, view open tabs to assist with research or comparisons.
Though still experimental, Copilot aims to make browsing and everyday tasks easier. Microsoft says users stay in control and can choose when Copilot can access their browsing activity.

4. Anthropic unveils new rate limits to curb Claude Code power users
July 28, 2025
Anthropic is adding new weekly usage limits for its Claude Code AI tool starting August 28. This change is meant to reduce overuse by a small group of users who run the tool nonstop or break the rules by sharing or selling access.
The limits apply to Pro ($20/month) and Max ($100 and $200/month) plans. These are in addition to the current 5-hour reset limits. Most users (about 95%) won’t be affected, but power users will now have limits on how many hours they can use Claude Code each week. Max users can buy extra usage if needed.
Anthropic says demand for Claude Code has been very high, causing slowdowns and outages. The new limits aim to keep the service running smoothly for everyone. Other AI companies like Cursor and Replit have made similar changes to stop abuse of their plans.

5. Tesla signs $16.5B deal with Samsung to make AI chips
July 28, 2025
Tesla has made a big $16.5 billion deal with Samsung to build its new AI6 computer chip. These chips will be made at Samsung’s new factory in Texas and will be used in Tesla’s self-driving cars, Optimus robots, and AI systems in data centers.
Elon Musk said this is a very important project. Tesla also works with another company, TSMC, to make the AI5 chip, which will first be made in Taiwan and later in Arizona. Samsung already makes Tesla’s older chip, the AI4.
This deal helps Samsung, which has had trouble finding big clients. Musk also said Tesla might spend more than $16.5 billion on Samsung chips in the future. Samsung will let Tesla help improve how the chips are made.
Tesla started using its own chips instead of Nvidia’s in 2019, with the FSDC (Hardware 3), also made by Samsung. Now, Tesla wants to grow from a car company into one that focuses on AI and robots.
